True story. I have my own dogs and they never have skin or coat problems. Recently, I dog sat for a border collie. The owner politely bathed sweet Beau before dropping him off. The soap was chemically-laden with synthetic fragrance, and who knows what else, that was meant to disguise the dog’s odor. The antiseptic scent was a lot for me to handle because I have a highly sensitive nose, but what did it do to poor Beau, who also has a sensitive nose? He was a hot, itchy mess. His coat was coarse, dull, and shedding excessively. He was nervous and in PAIN! Day two into our journey together, I gave him a gentle bath with our home-made dog wash. I didn’t want to do it because I knew he’d just had a bath, but his constant scratching required immediate attention. Within hours of washing his skin free from prior washings, I noticed him calming down and scratching greatly reduced. He was soothed. He didn’t visit long enough to merit a second washing, but I loaded his owner up with a healthier shampoo option and I knew Beau was going to be okay.
